New Spitalfields Market is Britain's premier wholesale fruit, vegetable and flower market. The market is a purpose-built site, in Leyton, East London, which opened in 1991. It is the largest revenue-earning fresh produce and flower market in the UK.

The market's location provides direct and easy access to the motorway network, and all nearby ports and airports, enabling more than 100 companies to offer a range of healthy and nutritious fresh produce and flowers to their customers, sourced year-round from every corner of the world.

These highly specialised firms predominantly serve customers across London and the Home Counties and our site is ideally placed to serve the rest of the UK and continental Europe too.

The wide mix of cultural and ethnic backgrounds within the New Spitalfields Market trading community ensures that we have a basket of fresh produce and flowers that satisfies the culinary preferences of all cultures.

The depth and flavour of the New Spitalfields offer has been enriched by the presence of tenants specialising in exotic fruits and vegetables, as well as catering and foodservice firms serving public and private sector customers across London.

There is no more diverse market in the country and that fact contributes hugely to the market's ability to stay at the forefront of its trade and service the rapidly changing needs of the 21st century wholesale market customer base.

National Fruit Show

We take our very popular pop-up stand to the National Fruit Show every year. This event is always well attended by the growers that supply the market with British apples, pears, plums, cherries and soft fruit and it is very good to catch up with old friends every year.

We would love to see more traders at the event, which is held at a perfect time to catch up on the season's prospects prior to the important winter months. This year's event takes place on October 25th and 26th. Go to nationalfruitshow.org.uk for more details.

‘Attending key trade shows such as the National Fruit Show is important to raise awareness of the Market’ commented Jan Hutchinson, Chief Exec of the Tenants Association ‘it’s good to remind people of the amazing quality that we are proud to present at the market’.

London Produce Show and Conference 2017

New Spitalfields Market has been on-board as an exhibitor at every London Produce Show and Conference since it was launched in 2014 and on June 8th, 2017, we were back again as the annual event enjoyed its fourth edition.

Once again, our presence was a great success, as New Spitalfields took its place alongside more than 100 fellow exhibitors from all corners of the globe, including major growers, importers, produce brands and foodservice companies. We received a higher number of visitors to the stand than in previous years, with many international suppliers showing more interest in the market, perhaps because of the impending situation with Brexit.

Held at the Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane each June, the show has established itself as the must-attend event for the UK fresh produce industry and consistently brings in the types of visitors that we as a market want to meet and do business with. Its primary aim is to link buyers from around the world with the UK produce industry; it is essentially a buyers fair and every independent retailer, foodservice buyer, chef and wholesaler is entitled to attend free of charge.

We caught up with a good number of our existing international suppliers as well as the potentially new ones and we were able promote the opportunities to their businesses in trading with our tenants. We'd love to see you there next year; register to attend through London Produce Show Website and get in touch with us through our twitter feed @fruitnveg_spits or Jan Hutchinson in the tenants association office. All wholesalers, retail buyers and foodservice buyers and chefs are entitled to free entry.

On June 9th, we hosted a group of 'tourists' from the show, who were bused down to the market for a guided tour and meet-the-trader session at the UK's premier wholesale market site. It was excellent to be able to bring people we had met during the show the day before down to Leyton to experience the wonders of New Spitalfields Market and our fantastic bunch of traders first hand.

Nabma

NABMA market of the year

"This is one of the most hotly contested categories in Market of the Year and one where the judges would have been delighted to make an award to each of the entries. Ultimately the judging panel made the award to one of our iconic wholesale markets which is the largest in the UK and continues to offer local employment, a vibrant culture and has seen great improvements in waste management performance. The market has coped wonderfully well with the impact of the Olympics and continues to serve London and the rest of the country. The Best Wholesale Market 2013 is New Spitalfields, London."
