New Spitalfields Market goes solar
We’re proud to see New Spitalfields Market become home to London’s largest rooftop solar installation.
Installed by Vital Energi, the new solar array features 2,730 panels across the market roof, creating a 1.4MWp installation expected to generate around 1.27 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity every year.
That’s enough energy to power approximately 470 homes, while helping to reduce carbon emissions by around 225 tonnes each year.
As one of the UK’s most important wholesale food markets, New Spitalfields operates around the clock, playing a vital role in supplying fresh produce to businesses across London and beyond.
Generating more of our electricity on site is an important step towards improving the market’s resilience and supporting a lower-carbon future for London’s food supply chain.
