The market hosted its annual visit by the Lord Mayor of the City of London on Tuesday 30th June 2026. The annually elected Mayor is a figure head to the City of London, the market’s landlords, and it is always a well- supported event by both tenants, City of London representatives and trade guests. This year the Lady Mayor, Dame Susan Langley came along to see the market at its end of night trade and to meet tenants and staff.
The visit proved as always to be a huge success and the current Chairman of the Spitalfields Market Tenants Association, Chris Hutchinson, was keen to compliment the Lady Mayor on her local knowledge of the area, and awareness of the wholesale trading that takes place at the site.
A breakfast after the tour was supported by both officers of the City of London and guests within the Fruit industry, along with representatives from two of the charities the market continues to support – the British Red Cross and Felix, who are able to use fresh produce donated by tenants for distribution to other local charities. The market donated £500 to the Mayors Appeal, which this year is supporting local youth in the area via the West Ham United Foundation’s Foundry and the Combined Cadet Force.
