New Spitalfields Market tenants were pleased to host a visit by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Nicholas Lyons, and his Civic party on Tuesday 18th July 2023. it is an annual event, and as always the tenants were pleased to welcome the group and to discuss their businesses and the trade generally in fresh produce. After a pavilion tour breakfast was served and during speeches by both Paul Walker, Chairman of the Spitalfields Market Tenants Association, and the Lord Mayor himself, there was general consensus that the market is continuing to trade well, despite the current economic situation and lack of supply of certain product lines.
As always, the tenants very generously donated a cheque to the Lord Mayors charity appeal, which this year include National Numeracy, MQ Mental health and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Tenants also presented flower arrangements and fruit baskets to their official guests, which included the City of London Civic Party, Local Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Roy Berg and his wife Kathleen, Master Fruiterer, Matt Hancock and Chairman of the City’s Markets Board, Henry Pollard.
